GREEN OAK PORCH
Grade II Listed Thatched Cottage
When we were asked to work on this beautiful 400 year old Grade II listed thatched cottage we couldn't have been more delighted. The original porch was ready to collapse after it had taken a severe battering heavy storms. It was important that whilst working within the strict parameters of the listing we were able to create a porch that was in keeping with the style of the property, whilst incorporating modern touches such as double glazing , underfloor heating and hidden storage.
Traditional methods were used in the building of the green oak frame and each mortise and tenon was handcut. Nothing could be overlooked as it was important to keep the integrity of the property. All the bricks used in the build were reclaimed and each one hand selected, as were the rosemary tiles for the roof to tie in and match the original building. It was important to preserve the plaster Green Man above the door and so the entire build was constructed around this with careful templating to ensure that he still had pride of place, central within the porch, above the entrance to the cottage.

The leaded lights within the eaves of the porch were designed to be in keeping and were made by hand by a local craftsperson.
